Villa Aurea is a celebration of joinery, proportion, and architectural heritage crafted into a kitchen that balances calm elegance with tactile richness. Located in Bromma, a residential garden suburb of Stockholm, this project brings together noble materials and precision detailing to create a sculptural, yet highly functional, kitchen environment.

The cabinetry pairs soft-matte lacquered fronts in a warm greige tone with solid American walnut, used generously across drawers, integrated paneling, and the dining table. Each lacquered front is built up from six fine layers, hand-finished for a velvety yet durable surface. The drawers, with their characteristic walnut grain, are inset and mitred into the framework, revealing their artisan build in every opening.

At the heart of the island lies a custom-designed walnut table that cantilevers gently into the dining space. Visually seamless but structurally independent, this architectural maneuver allows the table to remain materially coherent while functioning as a separate gathering point. Brass details punctuate the woodwork most notably the circular drawer pulls, chamfered edges, and the table joinery adding warmth and refined contrast.

The standout feature is the floating shelf system above the sink area. Constructed from solid walnut and wrapped in dekton Taga from Cosentino, the shelves are detailed with precision mitered joints and concealed LED lighting. Architecturally, they take inspiration from the reduced language of classical entablatures horizontal bands simplified into modernist form. The interplay of walnut and stone, accentuated by the backlit surface, creates a rhythmic punctuation across the dekton taga-clad wall.

From the fluted detailing on the table support to the seamless quartzite sink apron and recessed plinths, every junction is studied and intentional. The design references Swedish Grace and early functionalist detailing, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Lighting elements with brass and alabaster finishes echo the geometry and materiality of the space, drawing on influences from both Art Deco and Scandinavian classicism.

Villa Aurea is a kitchen defined not by trends, but by timeless architectural composition and craftsmanship. A dialogue between stone and wood, past and present, built to last.
