In a classic apartment on Drottninggatan, Vestige brings together architectural memory and joinery mastery. Stained oak framed fronts and 4cm solid drawers meet in a tailored illusion crafted to preserve symmetry and elevate the language of custom kitchen design.
Vestige
Stockholm, Sweden
Vestige is a study in form, proportion, and intelligent craftsmanship. Located in a turn-of-the-century apartment on Drottninggatan, Stockholm, this kitchen is defined by its reverence for architectural detail reimagined through modern joinery.
The foundation of the design lies in framed fronts crafted from stained oak in a rich espresso hue. The base units feature 4cm-thick drawer fronts, sculptural and robust an unusual luxury, typically incompatible with tall cabinet applications. But in this project, we challenged that limitation.
To extend the same framed expression vertically on the high cabinets, we developed a bespoke hinge-side manipulation technique. On the left side of the tall unit, a custom side panel was introduced, seamlessly imitating the framing detail to maintain balance and visual continuity. Meanwhile, the right side retains the full 4cm front profile. Internally, the cabinet structure was adapted to accommodate the depth and movement requirements without compromising clean function or reveal lines.
This subtle architectural intervention allows the kitchen to read as one consistent language effortless, yet deeply considered.
The worktop and backsplash are in a soft-toned natural quartzite with deep cloud-like veining, chosen for its understated presence and soft polish. Solid light oak drawers with integrated lighting reveal the interior craft, complete with carved inserts and elegant transitions warm, tactile, and timeless.
With its blend of material rigor, classical memory, and inventive detailing, Vestige is not just a kitchen it is a bespoke architectural object embedded in the domestic landscape.
