A quiet study in material depth and architectural restraint. In Lidingö, smoked oak cabinetry meets Taj Mahal quartzite in a kitchen inspired by Japanese spatial philosophy and Scandinavian clarity.
Oku House, Lidingö
Stockholm, Sweden
Oku House is a kitchen designed around the Japanese principle of “Oku” the idea of depth, subtlety, and space that unfolds gradually. Located in Lidingö, this project is a dialogue between stillness and detail, clarity and craft.
The cabinetry is crafted in smoked oak, with custom vertical profiles that bring rhythm and sculptural presence to the otherwise minimal façade. These lines purposefully designed create shadowplay and tactility, drawing on traditional Japanese joinery while aligning with the clean geometry of Nordic design.
Atop and around this structure, Taj Mahal quartzite lends its translucent warmth. Used as countertop, integrated sink, and full-height backsplash, the stone introduces a luminous, natural palette with delicate veining and soft beige undertones. Every surface is seamless, architectural, and composed with precision.
Blackened taps and hardware add a sense of grounding anchoring the space visually and echoing the linearity of the vertical detailing.
Oku House is not just a kitchen; it’s a meditation in material harmony. A space where cultural influences and architectural clarity coexist, creating a timeless environment rooted in both craftsmanship and calm.
